Workshops focus on autumn grazing

01 Jul 2019

A series of workshops to help producers plan autumn grazing has been organised by AHDB Dairy.

Led by a Pasture to Profit consultant, the nation-wide workshops will explore target autumn grass covers, flat versus steep wedges, and optimising production by maximising grazing.

Grazing plan

By the end of the workshop, attendees will  be able to create an optimal autumn grazing plan, using their own grass growth data along with previous years’ averages. And, most importantly, they should have the tools required to boost profits and be in a position to have the best possible start to the 2020 season.

Additional grass

“Optimising grazing management can have a big impact on the bottom line because every additional tonne of grass grazed increases profit by £334 per hectare per year,” says AHDB’s Siwan Howatson.

“This autumn’s pasture management will determine grass availability and quality next year, so it’s vital that producers set off on the right foot now.”

Additional support

The workshops are aimed at producers actively involved in rotational paddock grazing management and attendees will be offered additional support after the meeting via a dedicated WhatsApp group.
